Edinburgh Castle & Old Town
The Castle is the headline — and the queue and hill walk are real. From South Queensferry, treat Castle entry as a primary commitment, not an add-on after three other stops. From Newhaven / Leith you may keep more margin, but still plan tickets and return traffic before you add a long museum visit.
Royal Mile & museums
The Mile rewards a selective stroll more than a forced checklist. National museums and galleries can fill an afternoon alone — excellent on a longer call, punishing if you also insist on a full Castle circuit after a Forth transfer.
South Queensferry / Forth views
