Why South Queensferry changes the day
When cruise ships use South Queensferry or other Forth-side arrangements, you are west of the city with water, bridges, and often tender or landing logistics between you and Edinburgh Castle. The postcard is still Edinburgh — the clock is not.

Castle and Royal Mile realism
After getting ashore and the road into town, many guests still want Castle entry plus a long Mile walk plus a museum. That stack often fails once queues and the return transfer are honest. Prefer one primary focus: Castle with a short Mile stretch, or Mile and a gallery without a full Castle circuit.
Notes
- Ships calling for Edinburgh often use South Queensferry rather than docking beside Princes Street.
- Published hours ashore are not the same as hours in the Old Town after tender and transfer.
